The Swiss Army EN50-A Field Telephone (also known as the Feldtelefon 50 or FTf 50) is a rugged, compact field telephone introduced in the early 1950s and used through the 1980s. It was Developed by Albiswerk Zürich AG (a Swiss subsidiary of Siemens), its design was heavily inspired by the American EE-8 field telephone used during World War II. It operates efficiently on a single D-cell battery while relying on a powerful internal magneto generator to pump out a strong ringing signal.
Because the EN50-A operates strictly on hardwired analog signals without electronic tracking, wireless frequencies, or digital footprints, it provides an entirely interference free, unhackable means of communication. While mostly traded today as genuine European military surplus for collectors and historical displays, these workhorse phones still occasionally see use in modern static command posts and conflict zones where modern electronic warfare makes digital devices vulnerable.
