Ski skins are used for climbing snow-covered hills and backcountry slopes. These were designed for 10th Mountain Division skis and may fit other cross-country skis as well.
The first ski climbing skins were made of sealskin which is why they are called ‘ski skins’ or ‘climbing skins’. The one-directional nap of the bottom surface of the skins causes the skis to only slide forward — the nap ‘catches’ to prevent backward sliding.
These ski skins come with adjustable straps and buckles to securely fasten the skins to your skis. A loop attaches to the tip, two straps attach the skins in front of your ski binding and one strap behind, plus a special strap at the end secures and tightens the climbing skin for the full length of your ski.
