This packboard is an external pack frame developed during WWII by the U.S. Army. They needed a general-purpose loading system to carry bulky loads where trucks and other wheeled transport could not reach.

This pack frame left soldiers’ hands free during combat while carrying ammunition, radio equipment, gas cans, mortars, tripods, ammo cans, heavy and light machine guns… you name it. Frequently used as a hunting pack frame but great anytime you need to carry a heavy load. Also popular with WW2 historical reenactors.

WWII Packboard/Pack Frame Features

  • 1/4″ O.D. Plywood body curved in broad U-shape to support load (15.5″ w x 24″ h x 2.5″ deep)
  • Laced, stretched O.D. canvas for back comfort and airflow (12″ w x 20″ h)
  • 8 hooks on packboard for lashing gear to the backside
  • 1 Removable shelf
  • 2 clips at top inside of packboard
  • 2″ O.D. adjustable webbed shoulder straps with attached 1″ web straps including 1 quick-release buckle
  • Weight: Approx. 4 lbs

Packboards are dated 1944 or 1945 in new or used condition. Be sure to click the Video tab to see usage.

Shipped VERY quickly, I think I got an email stating it was ready to go within a half hour of placing the order. When the item arrived it was wrapped in a few garbage bags to protect the box. (I'm very thankful they did this because my step was wet from melting snow). The packboard and straps were in excellent condition and matched the description of it being new. The original instructions came with it and there was a nylon rope in it as well. Great products, excellent service, and great packaging. I will order from here again if I see anything else I need.
