This lightweight bivy cover is part of the Improved Modular Sleep System (IMSS) for the U.S. Army. The Gore-Tex material makes it completely waterproof, windproof, and breathable — all at the same time. When used with the Patrol Sleeping Bag or Intermediate Cold Weather Sleeping Bag, it provides a wind barrier and adds about 10 degrees F to the effective temperature rating.
The 3/4-length zipper makes opening and losing this mummy-style cover a breeze. Snaps connect the cover to a sleeping bag. There is a hook-and-loop section around the hood opening to securely close the bivy around you to keep you dry, warm and snug while keeping the elements outside.

Cleaning and Storing
The bivy cover repels dirt so it shouldn‘t need to be cleaned often. Hose off (easiest) or handwash as needed and hang to dry. Do not machine wash or dry. It’s ok to compress it when you’re actively packing it outdoors. At home, store it loosely in a bag or other container to maintain its effectiveness.
Note: ‘Bivy’ is short for ‘Bivouac’ which is a temporary camp without tents or other large covering. Yep, soldiers are very familiar with this term!
